Good morning reaplings. Today is the last day of Women in Horror Month and all throughout the month, I've shared with you some of my favorite femme fatals of the horror blogosphere. Well today, I'm sharing with you my favorite ladies of the big screen, the women who make horror films oh so good. So without further ado, here are my picks for the top 15 chicks in horror flicks!

#15 Cherry Darling - This chick packs the heat, both physically and literally!

#14 Tiffany - I freaking love Jennifer Tilly, and how can you not love the bride of our favorite killer doll, Chucky?

#13 Mary Shaw - This was my nickname in high school for my doll collection. I can empathize with poor old Mary.

#12 Mrs. Lovett - Although it probably should have done the opposite, every time I heard Mrs. Lovett sing "Try the Priest", I wanted a beef pot pie.

#11 Laurie Strode - The original Final girl. And I thought my big brother could be an ass sometimes....

#10 The Bride of Frankenstein - The reason I love her so much is because she didn't even have to speak to be memorable!

#9 Sidney Prescott - Im just jealous she got to sleep with Billy before I could....damn you Sidney, damn you!

#8 Nancy Thompson - The first slasher girl to actually think and make a plan to beat the bad guy (too bad I was still rooting for Freddy).

#7 Elvira, Mistress of the Dark - My favorite horror hostess, this woman built an empire in the 80's that's still going strong today. This woman is my hero!

#6 Clarice Starling - Any woman who can come face to face with Hannibal and Buffalo Bill without becoming a meal or a new suit is alright in my book.

#5 Carrie White - Finally someone got back at those assholes in high school that picked on everyone else to get there kicks! Go Carrie!

#4 Ellen Ripley - This woman is pure badass. She oozes with toughness. I wouldn't wanna meet her in a bar fight!

#3 Annie Wilkes - Misery is one of my all time favorite flicks. Annie is the perfect balance of craziness and charm. She sure knows how to make a house guest feel welcome!

#2 Baby Firefly - All this badass girl wanted was some Tutti Fucking Fruitti...oh yeah, and to kill you.

#1 Amanda Young - This poster girl for Stockholm Syndrome is probably the most memorable face in the whole SAW franchise. From the head trap, to the transformation into Jigsaw's right hand gal, this is one girly you shouldn't mess with.

Bio: My name is Jodie (aka Explodey Jo) and I'm from the UK. I got into horror podcasts and blogs when I started listening to the Splattercast about three years ago. I got in touch with the Splatter guys via their forum, and soon became a regular. I appeared on the show twice (the X-Files special and the Women in Horror episode) and began posting to their blog and review section. My main project is a series of reviews of the Video Nasty movies of the 1980s. I plan to watch them all, but some of them are proving hard to track down, especially the fully uncut versions.
My horror tastes are varied. I like most types of horror film, and am slowly getting to see a lot of older ones. My favourites include Alien, Aliens, The Exorcist, Grindhouse, Cape Fear (both versions), The Burning, and At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul. Recent gems I've been lucky enough to see include The Haunting (original), Let the right one in, Hatchet, and Evil Dead Trap.

Bio: My name is Maryanne. I'm originally from Milford, CT. I went to Full Sail University for Film in Florida where I fell in love with filmmaking and really got into loving the horror genre. While I was going to school, I worked at Halloween Horror Nights doing costuming for the Friday the 13th, The Thing, and Jack's Funhouse houses. While in Florida I met the always fun to be around, Lloyd Kaufman. Since meeting him I have helped work at a few conventions for Troma. I worked on my first full length film, "For Christ's Sake" when I was 20 while balancing school and having a part time job and having to drive two hours to set almost every other day. It was worth every second though. After graduating I moved to California where I met a ton of amazing people who worked in horror films. Two of them being my room mates, Tom Devlin and Lola Wallace.

I started my blog, Spooky Brew while I wasn't working anywhere and all I would do all day was watch horror movies. I felt like I should do something with all of that and maybe put my opinion out there and that's how Spooky Brew was born. The best way to describe Spooky Brew is it's a blog with reviews, random information, and top lists.

Bio: The Deadly Doll's House is a place for horror reviews, theorizing, discussion, and when in doubt, all sorts of genre related nonsense (such as notes of my convention trips where I observe Malcom McDowell’s ascot or attempt to pitch medical profession slasher spinoffs to Corbin Bernson). Each week, I review between two and four films, trying my best to focus on those I’ve never seen and more often than not, will never watch again. Unless I end up in hell, at which point I’m fairly certain eternal torment will involve repeat viewings of 2009’s It’s Alive and the penny budget alien invasion flick Feeders, a film that proves once and for all that paper mache monsters are not fit for the big screen. Purgatory will feature a rotation of Death Bed: The Bed That Eats and anything involving werewolves, and heaven will be a bottomless bucket of popcorn accompanying constant showings of The Wicker Man, Dawn of the Dead, Who Can Kill a Child, Kairo, Rosemary’s Baby, and anything with the words doll, Muppet, Verhoeven, or killer snowman in its keywords.
Every Friday I contribute a genre-related column over at Pop Syndicate (popsyndicate.com) discussing anything from what horror movies have taught me about house hunting to proposing plot synopses for sequels I would sell my original Whatever Happened to Baby Jane poster to see (just imagine what life would look like on the Killer Klowns’ home planet!). You can read my more monocle worthy writing in Issue #8 of Paracinema where I delve full force into Battle Royale II: Requiem to find a few worthwhile themes buried under chunks of teenagers’ heads.
Basically, I’ve been a horror fan ever since my 6 year old eyes squeezed shut in fear at the sight of a Good Guy doll carving his way through downtown Chicago to menace a nice little boy with family problems. Add a family practicing zombie escape plans a decade before World War Z, a well-used Netflix membership never in danger of being cancelled, and a lifelong love for writing divided by shoddy computer skills and you’ve got a good idea of what my scream queenery might be about.

The name is Nicole Raymond (NMRaymond) and I am a horror enthusiast, primarily versed in horror films but certainly not all of the vast titles in the genre. Horror was something I avoided as a child, frightened by the mere music that contained haunting and eerie melodies that accompanied the genre. Not to sound pathetic, but horror was terrifying to me during my childhood. However, a love of gore and mystery is in my blood: my grandmother and my father have enjoyed horror since as long as I could remember. Embracing horror was inevitable for me, I just never imagined how much I would love the genre once I embraced that dark and twisted part of me.
Readers need only know that everything that I write on my horror blog is my personal opinion and that I enjoy inputting comedic relief and puns throughout to bring out my kooky sense of humor. I really just want to share my experiences in the horror genre, whether or not readers agree with my personal opinion. I just want my voice to be heard in this community, and I have felt nothing but welcomed since I arrived in the horror blogosphere. And I would be interested in being suggested titles in the horror genre, specifically novels and short stories, because my horror library is short in that department.

Bio: I started In It For the Kills to figure out why I watch so many horror films. I was only an occasional horror movie viewer until around my 32nd birthday, although I have been interested in celebrity death details, ghosts, psychic phenomena and cemeteries as long as I can remember. One minute I was one of those people who couldn't watch a horror movie alone and would have to cover my eyes often; the next I was watching them every night. My "thesis" of sorts and the meaning of the blog's name was that we talk about atmosphere, shots, effects, acting, plot, etc., but what if all we really care about is gnarly sequences of people dying in nasty ways? In my case, I think I might be taking out aggression by watching the movies.
I spend some of the time posting very self-indulgent mini papers (which would have garnered Cs in college English) on the symbolism in the films I watch. These posts are not so popular, which is really no surprise. I promised myself I would not be just another site making fun of crappy movies. Unfortunately, my favorite sites are all the ones where people make fun of stuff so I've veered in that direction anyway. The posts with more humor, particularly when lists are involved, seem to be the most popular. I know that I genuinely like some pretty crappy movies and it is hard not to mock them.
Sometimes I miss the 80s style of filmmaking which was not ironic until Heathers came along. But I'm a Gen-Xer, and we seem to have taken 'liking stuff because it sucks" to a new level. Now popular culture can't seem to go back. I think recent horror movies that are too smart and self-aware may not hold up. For example, have you watched Scream lately? The self-referential aspects of that one definitely didn't age well. Probably my favorite horror movie of all time is Poltergeist. That movie had its funny parts but when the shit came down they played it straight.
Because "they" are not making the films I like as much anymore, it leads me to think my next step will be writing horror short stories. Maybe if they are any good my husband, an indie filmmaker who writes screenplays, can adapt some of them. What I'd really like to do is write creative non fiction with a horror theme. I've always had the most success with previous blogs when I tell modified stories about my own life, but I live in a small town and I'd rather not get sued or murdered for something I've written. It means a lot to me when anyone is affected by something I've written, but this blog is only read by other horror bloggers. It's nice to make art for its own sake, but I have a B.A. in English I've never profited from and I'm not getting any younger or more wealthy at this point. I'd really like to expand into something more people will read i.e. something someone will pay me for. I know that some people make waaaaaay too much money for their art. I would be happy with 30-50k a year for making stuff up.
I don't see In It For the Kills dying anytime soon, but at this time it is my only writing project and it should be more of a side project. I'll do it as long as it's fun.

Bio: I've been into horror movies ever since I discovered the beauty of Killer Klowns From Outer Space at the age of 5. From that point on- horror movies became a sort of roller coaster type of entertainment for me. I was terrified to watch them but I just HAD to do it- and afterwards I was exhilarated and completely pumped about what I had just seen.
I began the Horror Digest in July 09 and ever since then have been spitting out reviews like crazy. I review pretty much everything but the horror that really warms my heart- are the more artful and meaningful films. I have a longtime obsession with beautiful blood on film, poetic voice overs and creepy songs- things that I think can really make a film. I firmly believe in the idea of a terrible beauty- things that are so terrifying but still represented in a way that makes them truly memorable. In my reviews I concentrate on the elements of the film that stick with us to the grave. Those moments in horror movies that you will always somehow picture when you are alone in a dark room and terrified by your own shadow.
My goal as a blogger is to expose readers not only to movies they have never seen- but also to allow them to see a movie in a very different light than they have before. Writing has always been my passion and hopefully a little sass, mixed with some horror knowledge and just overall coolness will lead The Horror Digest to bigger and better things.

The site soon became and continues to be the go-to site for all things horror, covering everything from independent to mainstream horror films, music and books to horror products and clothing companies as well as featuring interviews with the big names in horror as well as the up-and-comers.

Bio: The Zombie Grrlz crew is made up of Zombie Grrl (me!), Lady Succubus (Summer), The Last Grrl (Ariel) and The Re-Animatress (Brianne). For as long as we've been friends the four of us have been getting together to watch horror films, from high school slumber parties (that resulted in sleepless nights) to present day Zombie Grrlz' Movie and Potluck Night at my house, one thing hasn't changed over the years, and that is the important role horror has played both in our lives--and our friendships.
So after years of geeking out over horror flicks and talking about them together, we finally decided to put the popcorn down, come out from under the security of our Snuggies (mine is the stylish leopard print one, jealous?) and record our fanatic mumblings, which became the Zombie Grrlz Podcast. We're an all-female show that focuses on horror in film, TV, books (occasionally) and games, and we take a look at the genre from feminist (and geeky fan girl) perspective. We review movies, chat about horror news and rumors, discuss the role of women in the genre, use plenty of salty language and occasionally burst into song.
In a nutshell we are feminist chicks who love horror flicks!

Bio: On a personal level, I'm a Theatre and English student at Western Illinois University as well as the feature baton twirler for the Marching Leathernecks. I started DotW for the sheer fact that for some reason or another, people think the horror genre is dying. I want to change that opinion. I am only 19 years old, female, a competitive baton twirler, a beauty queen, poster child for my former high school (literally, I'm on the website) and yet I live and breathe horror films. I like that I don't quite "fit in" with the stereotypical horror fanatic. I've never fully fit the mold of anything, and that's something I take great pride in. I'm one of the youngest horror bloggers out there, but I like to think I can hold my own with the best of them. Mainly because, regardless of my age, I'm a raging fangirl at heart, and that's what really matters. At my blog, I intertwine wit, sass, femininity, intelligence and a teaspoon of sarcasm for good measure. The horror industry is totally male-dominated, from its directors to its slashers, and even its bloggers... and I think that needs to change. Bio: Allow me to introduce myself, I’m Aleata Illusion,and 23 years old. I reside in the small boring town of Wooster,Ohio(for now). I’ve been a horror movie fanatic my entire life. My undying love for the horror genre came more natural then breathing. I originally wanted to be a special FX make-up artist when I was young, but as I got older it developed into a independent writer/director. Regardless I’ve always wanted to be involved in the film industry. I spend most of my time writing, shooting, directing, studying, and collecting horror movies. I run a film group by the name of Maggot Mosh Productions and a horror movie blog called Gore Gore Dancer reviews.

Bio: Upon the lap of my guffawing father, I was raised on the horror film. Armed with a clunky VHS camcorder, I fell in love with filmmaking at the age of thirteen in my rural hometown of Maple Valley, Washington. Countless short films and bottles of fake blood later, I went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Production, with minors in Honors and Legal Studies, at Chapman University in Orange, California. After graduation, I married the man I met over a friendly game of Counter-Strike nine years ago. We have since graduated from Counter-Terrorist vs. Terrorists to Infected vs. Survivors. When it comes to filmmaking, we are partners in crime and are constantly working on new projects. I am currently editing a documentary on ecology for a non-profit organization and continuing to build my resume with film experience.
My blog, The Horror Effect, is mainly comprised of reviews (reviews that I hope are considered thoughtful), but I also share filmmaking stories, my short films, some of my goofy artwork, and my adventures as a horror fan. One of my favorite features that readers really seem to enjoy is the CAPS review, which is a review comprised of screen captures and my captions.
