Day 6 "favorite vampire movie" of the 30 day horror challenge

Vampire films... these days they seem to be a dime a dozen or people complain about how Twilight films are ruining this sub-genre. The rules are pretty clear about how vamps work, how to kill them, what they do in the dark, how they go about drinking blood, etc. So this sub-genre is limited by the very rules that have already been established thus making it hard for a film to break out from a creative standpoint. That's what probably influenced my pick, which goes to....

Habit - Is it a vampire film or not? I like the juxtaposition between alcoholism which rules the life of our main character against the "is it real or is it not?" aspects associated with vampirism in the film. Roger Ebert said it best in his review of Habit as to what makes the film so successful:

Of all the recent vampire movies ("Interview with the Vampire",''The Addiction",''Nadja''), this is the only one to suggest that the powerful symbolism of vampirism could create results even in the absence of causes. You could be killed by vampires even if they do not exist.

I've always been a big believer in the power of ambiguity as it leaves something to the viewers imagination. It leaves them something to ponder over. It gets people debating things or questioning how things truly unfolded. Once a film gets inside your head like that, it's working on a deeper level. Habit breaks the mold of the conventional vampire movies and leaves a haunting impression that's hard to shake off.

So which film would you have picked? ....to take part, the rules are below, or you can check out the Facebook fan page and interact with everyone else that's taking part by visiting:
