Day 5 "favorite monster movie" of the 30 day horror challenge

This is the most difficult sub-genre for me as this is my least favorite sub-genre. It isn't that I don't like monsters. It's the fact that these films completely rest on if the monster is convincing or not. If it's a success, then the film is more and likely going to be a success. However, if the monster is unconvincing, then the film has completely blown it. So my top pick goes to....

Fear of the Dark. Fear of the Dark plays up to a very tangible fear that just about everyone has experienced in their life - fear of monsters lurking in the dark. Fear of the Dark asks "what if those monsters were indeed very real?". That's what makes the film a success, is that it knows how to milk suspenseful situations involving this fear since everyone has experienced it. Fear of the Dark doesn't get hung up in trying to explain everything like where did these monsters come from or for how long have they existed....stuff like that. Sometimes leaving something to the imagination is best. Fear of the Dark has some interesting dialogue in which the characters talk about these fears and what shapes them though. Top that off with an appealing cast, including horror genre superstar Kevin Zegers (Wrong Turn, Dawn of the Dead, Frozen) and that's enough to make Fear of the Dark must see viewing.

So which film would you have picked? ....to take part, the rules are below, or you can check out the Facebook fan page and interact with everyone else that's taking part by visiting:
