Dollar Bin Horror Spotlight - Widow (Screener Review)

Vivian Potts is haunted by disturbing dreams of her recently deceased husband, Alex. When her sister admits to having similar dreams, Vivian is convinced Alex is trying to communicate with them. Is she losing her mind or is the truth even more terrifying than she could ever imagine?
This movie is a great low budget thriller from Big Biting Pig Productions. The story is well thought out, though a few of the lines, like at the funeral toward the beginning, made no sense in context; it could have been simpler. The acting is relatively well done for a low budget affair, and the camera work isn't too shabby itself. The thing that makes this film stand out to me is the ending twist. Though I can't give it away, I will say I didn't see it coming, and thats the kind of end you want in a film! Overall , it's well done and very enjoyable to watch, so check this one out!

Cyber Scream Queen of the Day: The Zombie Grrlz

It's time for our special Women In Horror Month posts, The Cyber Scream Queen of the Day! The Woman you see highlighted this day and every day this month deserves the recognition for their outstanding achievements in online horror writing.

Name: The Zombie Grrlz (Racheal, Summer, Ariel, and Briane)
Podcast: Zombie Grrlz
Bio: The Zombie Grrlz crew is made up of Zombie Grrl (me!), Lady Succubus (Summer), The Last Grrl (Ariel) and The Re-Animatress (Brianne). For as long as we've been friends the four of us have been getting together to watch horror films, from high school slumber parties (that resulted in sleepless nights) to present day Zombie Grrlz' Movie and Potluck Night at my house, one thing hasn't changed over the years, and that is the important role horror has played both in our lives--and our friendships.
So after years of geeking out over horror flicks and talking about them together, we finally decided to put the popcorn down, come out from under the security of our Snuggies (mine is the stylish leopard print one, jealous?) and record our fanatic mumblings, which became the Zombie Grrlz Podcast. We're an all-female show that focuses on horror in film, TV, books (occasionally) and games, and we take a look at the genre from feminist (and geeky fan girl) perspective. We review movies, chat about horror news and rumors, discuss the role of women in the genre, use plenty of salty language and occasionally burst into song.
In a nutshell we are feminist chicks who love horror flicks!

Cyber Scream Queen of the Day: Brittney-Jade Colangelo

It's time for our special Women In Horror Month posts, The Cyber Scream Queen of the Day! The Woman you see highlighted this day and every day this month deserves the recognition for their outstanding achievements in online horror writing.

Name: Brittney-Jade Colangelo (BJ-C)
Blog: Day of the Woman
Bio: On a personal level, I'm a Theatre and English student at Western Illinois University as well as the feature baton twirler for the Marching Leathernecks. I started DotW for the sheer fact that for some reason or another, people think the horror genre is dying. I want to change that opinion. I am only 19 years old, female, a competitive baton twirler, a beauty queen, poster child for my former high school (literally, I'm on the website) and yet I live and breathe horror films. I like that I don't quite "fit in" with the stereotypical horror fanatic. I've never fully fit the mold of anything, and that's something I take great pride in. I'm one of the youngest horror bloggers out there, but I like to think I can hold my own with the best of them. Mainly because, regardless of my age, I'm a raging fangirl at heart, and that's what really matters. At my blog, I intertwine wit, sass, femininity, intelligence and a teaspoon of sarcasm for good measure. The horror industry is totally male-dominated, from its directors to its slashers, and even its bloggers... and I think that needs to change. My lifetime obsession with horror has turned me into one of the coolest fangirls you're likely to meet.Outside of my sarcastic commentary on DotW, I am a writer for Horror Society, Bloody-Disgusting and the newly crowned Ms. Horror Blogosphere. I started writing to show the world that horror is thriving through the generations that weren't born in the Golden age, and that the future of horror is bright and booming :)

Cyber Scream Queen of the Day: Aleata Illusion

It's time for our special Women In Horror Month posts, The Cyber Scream Queen of the Day! The Woman you see highlighted this day and every day this month deserves the recognition for their outstanding achievements in online horror writing.

Name: Aleata Illusion
Blog: GoreGore Dancer Reviews
Bio: Allow me to introduce myself, I’m Aleata Illusion, and 23 years old. I reside in the small boring town of Wooster,Ohio(for now). I’ve been a horror movie fanatic my entire life. My undying love for the horror genre came more natural then breathing. I originally wanted to be a special FX make-up artist when I was young, but as I got older it developed into a independent writer/director. Regardless I’ve always wanted to be involved in the film industry. I spend most of my time writing, shooting, directing, studying, and collecting horror movies. I run a film group by the name of Maggot Mosh Productions and a horror movie blog called Gore Gore Dancer reviews.
My blog is basically a collection of horror movie reviews (old, new, foreign, i cover all kinds), really snazzy top 20/10/5 lists of the best and craziest horror around, my production groups movie updates, and much more random awesomeness! This is where i vent all the horror movie mania building up in my mind. So if you interested in horror films (i cover mostly independent) please feel free to visit my page and read up. Also leave a comment or two, i love getting feedback from other horror fans/writers. Especially if you need any horror movie suggestions/information, I'd be much obliged to help out!

Cyber Scream Queen of the Day: Rebecca Sayers

It's time for our special Women In Horror Month posts, The Cyber Scream Queen of the Day! The Woman you see highlighted this day and every day this month deserves the recognition for their outstanding achievements in online horror writing.

Name: Rebecca Sayers (B-Movie Becky)
Blog: The Horror Effect
Bio: Upon the lap of my guffawing father, I was raised on the horror film. Armed with a clunky VHS camcorder, I fell in love with filmmaking at the age of thirteen in my rural hometown of Maple Valley, Washington. Countless short films and bottles of fake blood later, I went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Production, with minors in Honors and Legal Studies, at Chapman University in Orange, California. After graduation, I married the man I met over a friendly game of Counter-Strike nine years ago. We have since graduated from Counter-Terrorist vs. Terrorists to Infected vs. Survivors. When it comes to filmmaking, we are partners in crime and are constantly working on new projects. I am currently editing a documentary on ecology for a non-profit organization and continuing to build my resume with film experience.
My blog, The Horror Effect, is mainly comprised of reviews (reviews that I hope are considered thoughtful), but I also share filmmaking stories, my short films, some of my goofy artwork, and my adventures as a horror fan. One of my favorite features that readers really seem to enjoy is the CAPS review, which is a review comprised of screen captures and my captions. It’s like a children’s picture book with lots of puns and sarcastic remarks. Above all, I try to incorporate truly reflective views of the horror film, without forgetting to have a sense of humor about the genre.

Dollar Bin Horror Spotlight - Interrupted Dead

Eyot Films is an independent Toronto based film company specializing in horror-comedy features. Co-founders Jen Martinovic and Matt Ramphal write, produce, direct, shoot, and edit their own productions. In 2009, they completed their first feature length film called Interrupted Dead and sent me a screener for review.
After participating in a seance, Jeff gets a little more than he bargained for: the awakening of a murderous ghost. As the bodies pile up around him, Jeff must figure out how to put this maniacal spirit to rest, before it's too late. The film is a fun, low budget, independent horror comedy that does the job and makes you laugh. The acting is bad on purpose, the story is pretty good, ad the death scenes are some of my favorite for an independent film (I'll never see a broomstick the same way again). Overall it's a decent and fun film, so check it out!
Also, I got to talk with Co-founder and actress Jen Martinovic about the film and company for the Dollar Bin Horror Spotlight

Q: How did Eyot Films get started?

A: Matt had been directing, shooting and editing short films. Jen had
been working as a live sketch-comedy performer, and together we would
write sketches for her weekly and monthly shows. The characters we
were coming up with tended to be these dark, confused, severely
problematic people. We decided that they were perfectly suited for
horror-comedy type movies. Being horror fans, we had noticed tons of

independently made low/no-budget films on the market, and we figured -
we should really be doing that. So we did.

Q: How did you come up with the concept for Interrupted Dead? What inspired it?

A: We’ve always been fans of ghost stories. We’re also big on slasher
movies, where people systematically get brutally picked off by the
killer. Lastly we really enjoy ridiculous character based comedies, so

Interrupted Dead is basically a blend of our three favorite genres. We
weren’t really trying to break any new ground with the plot, and
instead decided to focus on how we could put a different spin on the
formula. We did so by creating bizarre, eccentric, and hopefully still

somewhat relatable characters, and putting them through the killer
ghost experience.

Q: Could you tell about the experience of making your first feature film?

A: It was fun, grueling, educational and frustrating. The best part was
working with some very talented, funny, positive people that were just
happy to have a platform to work on. When you make a movie on
virtually no budget, you have to learn to be creative and go with
whatever is thrown at you. It was a tough experience at times, but
ultimately, a very rewarding one that was well worth it.

Q: Whats coming up next? Where can we learn more?

A: We have another horror-comedy feature we’ve just finished writing.
We’re also developing a comedy idea which we’re thinking of making
into a TV pilot. Either way, we’re hoping to put together enough of a
budget to make them happen early this year. For more information on
Eyot Films, you can check out our website at www.eyotfilms.com and/or
you can follow us on Twitter for updates!
