Guest Post - ‘The Walking Dead’: Is it Next Sunday Yet? by Jolie Du Pre

‘The Walking Dead’: Is it Next Sunday Yet?

Maybe this monster lover is biased, but the premier episode of season three of “The Walking Dead” exceeded my expectations. It kept me on the edge of my chair, and I didn't want it to end!

In the opening scene, we're greeted with a close-up of two walkers aka zombies. It's a perfect way to set the tone for the rest of the show.

In the last scene of the last episode of season two, we get a glimpse of the outside of the prison. For season three, the group doesn't travel there right away. First they have to get supplies from an abandoned house, minus the zombies, but the prison fun soon begins.

There are a number of things I loved about the premier. The pics for the opening credits have changed, which is good. Shane is gone, things have evolved, and it’s always good to keep stuff fresh. However, the awesome theme song is still the same, and I hope they never get rid of it. Not every show has a brilliant theme song.

Carl is better trained with a gun, and he seems to have matured a bit between seasons. Lori, the pain-in-the-butt (sorry Lori fans) with the bun in the oven, is still whiny, but Carol has become quite the shot. It's good to see her handle a weapon.

Finally, there's the much anticipated introduction of Michonne, Andrea's guardian angel with the armless zombies as pets. She's as badass as Daryl, and that's fun to see.

There were scary scenes in the debut, especially when the group enters the prison.  If you've never seen prison guards in riot gear as zombies, we got to see it in season three of “The Walking Dead.”  The scene in the dark corridor, where Hershel has an unfortunate encounter with a walker, is the scariest.
Is it next Sunday yet?
