Day 18 "favorite foreign horror" of the 30 day horror challenge

High Tension
Before director Alexandre Aja got behind the camera on the very popular “The Hills Have Eyes”and “Piranha” remakes, he co wrote and directed my favorite foreign horror film of all time “High Tension”. High Tension or also known by it’s French title of “Haute Tension”, is a savagely brutal film that came out in 2003.

Any film that starts off with a man giving himself oral sex using a woman’s decapitated head gets my attention immediately. The film is about two college girls Marie and Alex. The two girls travel to Alex’s parents country home to relax and take time to study for school. Late at night after the girls arrival, a psycho in overalls and a trucker hat shows up to terrorize anyone who gets in his way. This killer uses any weapon he can to kill and torture his victims. One unlucky victim gets their head taken off by force with a wooden piece of furniture. There is little to no time for the audience to catch their breath, this film is a relentless bloodbath. It’s a bit of a cat and mouse game. Marie desperately attempts to rescue her friend, while the killer tries to take out Marie once and for all. The film has a twist ending that is beyond surprising, leaving it’s audiences nerves racing. I vividly remember the first time I saw this film. It had me up at 3 o’clock in the morning, with my mind playing tricks on me. This is certainly not a film for anyone with a weak stomach. High Tension is terrifying, insanely gory, and will leave your heart beating rapidly in your chest. I tip my hat to you Mr. Alexandre Aja, you outdid yourself with this horror classic.

I went with a recent French film for this category as well.

My picks for days 13-18:

Wish I had gotten in on this when it started! I loved Haute Tension all the way up to the end, I didn't like the twist.

As for my favorite foreign horror, that would be almost impossible to choose just one, but I will say that Australia's "The Loved Ones" is hands down the best I've seen in a looong time.

I love High Tension as well, but I had to go with Martyrs on this one:
