Dollar Bin Horror Spotlight - Nixon and Hogan Smoke Christmas (Screener Review)

It's Christmas eve in Strangeville. The demented duo, Nixon and Hogan, have asked Santa for some sweet, sweet ule tide weed for their favorite holiday. Unfortunately, Santa mixes up the Christmas weed with Voodoo Zombie weed and smokes himself Undead! Now it's up to our dim witted heroes to finish Santa's delivery route or face the end of Christmas as we know it!

All I can say is Holy shit! This movie is crazy as hell, and thats why I absolutely adore it! If you've seen any of the Hack Movies before, you know what to expect; a lot of weed, sex, and blood. This movie doesn't disappointed. This time though, we got a Zombie Santa in the mix...and who doesn't love a Zombie Santa! Unfortunately, being a zombie makes it a bit difficult to deliver the last of the presents, so who does Santa call for help? Who else but our two favorite stoners, Nixon and Hogan! These two are probably my favorite characters in the whole Hack Movies world, and remind me so much of people I knew in high school. The film itself is pretty well shot (better than most of the other Hack Films), the story is of course ridiculously awesome, and the acting is so bad, it's amazing! Definitely one of the most entertaining Christmas movies I've seen, but this is one I wouldn't share with the kids buy an open fire...
Go buy the film and support some amazing underground horror comedy HERE!

Guest Review: "The Chooper"

This post was contributed by Sara Bimmel, who has blogged about dozens of topics on dozens of fun sites. She loves absurd horror movies and spends some of her time writing on a related subject, Halloween costumes, over at StarCostumes.com.

Is it possible to go wrong with a cheesy horror movie that had a $500 budget, features numerous relatives of the director, has a really funny name, is described as a “recommended Gitmo interrogation tool” on IMDB, and is only 60 minutes long? I didn’t think so.
“Blood Shack,” also known as the far more fun to say “The Chooper,” was directed by Ray Dennis Steckler, who is (in)famous for being involved with absolutely ridiculous movies that have titles like “The Adventures of Rat Phink and Boo Boo” and “The Incredibly Strange Creatures That Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies.”
In “The Chooper,” Carol Brandt (played by Carolyn Brandt, believe it or not) inherits a drab-looking ranch out in the middle of nowhere. The only people who live nearby are Daniel, a ranch hand who treats the Chooper’s existence as merely an inconvenient fact of life, and a few kids who love playing in the haunted ranch house. The house is, of course, haunted by the Chooper, a bizarre, ninja-like creature from a Native American legend that is never fully explained. Whenever anyone goes near the house, Daniel utters his trademark line: “The Chooper’s gonna get ya!” Since this is a horror movie, no one ever listens, and the Chooper does indeed end up getting a lot of people.
There isn’t really much gore in the movie (and by “much,” I mean “any”), but I think some of the movie’s sheer charm would be lost if there were. The Chooper never says anything, and you’re never quite sure when he’ll show up, but he isn’t especially scary, and the real fun of the movie comes in watching him run full-out with his impractical sword raised high above his head. It’s impossible to describe the way he moves—it’s something between the attempted sprint of an online gamer and the stance of a person who is trying to intimidate a lion—but it’s comic gold nonetheless. Oh, yes, and the movie also includes a hyper-extended scene at a rodeo that is completely unrelated to anything else in the film. If you like a few “yee-haws” with your horror hee-haws, this is the movie for you, folks!
“The Chooper” does actually have a plot. Carol is being pressured to sell her inherited ranch property by Tim, the villain of the movie (he even has a mustache), but it becomes more and more difficult to care about what’s actually going on in the movie as it progresses (and who’s trying, anyway?). Suffice it to say that this is a film that shouldn’t be missed. Get that Chooper before it gets you!

Splurge Of The Week : Tales From The Crypt Graphic Novels

We all know the classic comics that gave us chills and spills way back in the day. But have you heard about the NEW Tales From The Crypt from the publishing company Papercutz? If not, I suggest you check em out! These comics and graphic novels follow in the footsteps of the original, All three of our favorite ghouls are back to host the tales, each tale is written and drawing by a different author and artist, and of course the tales are scary. The main difference here is these are aimed toward a younger audience, tweens and teens. The stories are scary and fun, but not over the top. If you have a twatlight teen who you wish would read something better, give em one of these! If you have a kid you'd like to introduce to the world of horror, here's the door! Even if your familiar with the classics and just wanna know what this is all about, I think you'd enjoy these little tales. Though there not as grand as the originals, there enjoyable reads that bring back that old comic feel for the next generation! Find out more HERE.

Dollar Bin Film - "Thou Shall Not Kill...Except "

An army unit on patrol in Vietnam is ambushed and most of the unit is killed. The survivors are given leave to return Stateside and see their families. They decide to visit one of their buddies who had been wounded in the ambush. When they arrive in his town, they run up against a killer cult led by a murderous psychopath.
What do you get when you mix Sam Raimi, the crew from the Evil Dead films, no money, and a lot of cheese? You get this movie. The film is badly written and poorly acted, but it's just so damn fun! With plenty of mindless violence and a memorable, but really really bad, performance by Sam Raimi as a Charles Manson style cult leader with bad hair, and even worse teeth, this film is the perfect 80's cheesefest for die hard Evil Dead fans to kick back and enjoy. Just leave your brains at the door, cause tryin to figure this shit out is gonna make em hurt.

Dollar Bin Horror Spotlight - Feast of the Vampires (Screener Review and Interview)

When Scotty tries to track down his missing friend in a farming town plagued with a vampire curse, he enlists the help of beautiful Autumn and the wacky vampire professor Orson Corman, but things get out of hand when they sneak into the plantation of Duke Wolfgang Moonlight and become trapped as darkness falls. Will they be able to outwit the Duke and his assistant Gus, or will they too become creatures of the night?

Funny, quirky, and fun are just a few words to describe this low budget indie horror comedy. The story line is pretty simple, but well written. The acting isn't too bad (although at times, it did feel a bit week) and I adore the way it was shot. It has an old 70's reel feel to it, small defects in the film included. It opens with a scene reminiscent of the old 70's shows that came on late at night with a host, which was pretty amusing to watch. It even has an intermission with funny fake facts about the film's stars. I think my favorite part of the film, though, was the Professor, who had one the funniest lines in the whole movie. I don't want to give it away, but when he first encounters the Vampire, you'll know what I mean. Overall, this film is a ton of fun to watch, entertaining as hell, and it isn't Twilight, so check it out!

Writer and Director Jay Burleson sat down to answer a few questions about the film, so enjoy!

Q: What made you want to make a Vampire film?

A: I wanted to do something with a classic feel to it and I felt like our Southern setting would be perfect for a vampire film because you could use a plantation instead of a castle.

Q: What was shooting this film like?

A: It was fun, but with a lot of ups and downs. Principal photography got cut short and we didn't get to finish shooting the film for about seven months. A lot of the first 15 pages of script never got shot. Other than that I had a blast working with the crew and actors. I've worked with most of them all before and would definitely work with them again.

Q: What films or actors inspired this film?

A: Films such as Monster Squad and Fright Night were a big inspiration but Roman Polanski's "Fearless Vampire Killers" was the film that really got me interested in doing something like this. So, Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate.

Q: What are you working on now and where can we learn more about this film and other projects?

A: Right now I'm shooting an experimental drama called Anathema Arienette and I also have a religious horror film, Bible Belt, in post production. You can find out more about Feast of the Vampires at www.feastofthevampires.net or get info on our other projects at www.myspace.com/burlesonfilm. I also have a twitter: www.twitter.com/jayburleson
