Every artist, every director has an origin. George Lucas- THX-1138, Wes Craven-Last House on the Left, and Lord of the Rings trilogy auteur Peter Jackson with his low-budget 1987 film Bad Taste.
The plot itself is very simple, The plotline sees aliens invade the fictional New Zealand village of Kaihoro to harvest humans for their intergalactic fast food franchise, where they face off against a four-man paramilitary force, of which at least one member appears to have gone insane. Part Aliens, Part splatterfest, part slapstick, by all rights this should have been a terrible film. No way!
The humor is laugh out loud funny(exploding sheep anyone?), the gore is above and beyond the call of horror duty. Believe it or not, the acting is quite good for the unknowns Jackson was working with back in the day. With all due respect to its growing legion of fans, Bad Taste is the movie Troll 2 wishes it could have been. Clearly, Mr. Jackson's talent shine through, ultimately leading him to bigger things. 8.5/10
