Troll 2 is NOT the worst movie ever made. Not in the worlds of horror or other cinema, not in the worlds of the cults who spend their weekends doing the Time Warp or putting on drag to the strains of an ABBA soundtrack, not in the worlds where fans sit at the box office for weeks, months, years at a time just to catch the latest George Lucas...errr...I guess now Disney opus. Troll 2 is bad, but hardly deserving the moniker of Best Worst Movie.
However, many, many people are convinced this unofficial sequel to the 1985 movie is THE WORST. They feel it is so bad, a documentary must be made to express this sentiment. Enter one Michael Stephenson, the child star of Troll 2, now film director. His goal was to bring all the major players involved in this celebrated movie back together to discuss the thoughts, memories, etc. The documentary focuses mainly on George Hardy, the father, who now is a dentist in Alabama, It seems his world revolves around Novocaine, Troll 2 screenings, and horror and sci-fi conventions. At first, he seems friendly, willing to oblige those who want him to say the "You don't piss on hospitality!" line but like many before him, he tires of this, wishing for something more.
We see the others from the film, it appears some are physiologically scarred from the experience. Connie Young, the sister, can't get a whole lot of work thanks to this turd. Margo Prey, the mother, seems to have almost completely disappeared and reclusive as apparent from her no soliciting sign on her front lawn. Then we come across the director, Claudio Fragrasso. He seems genuinely stunned that people were laughing at this movie when they weren't suppose to. Really? You mean with such clever dialogue as this, they weren't suppose to be amused?
(GARBAGE DAY thinks this line is dumb)
Then, he describes this movie as ...a parable about family. Just like Jeffery Dahmer's story is parable about good ol' fashion home cooking. Yikes.
Best Worst Movie shows the fandom this movie has developed over the years, the cult status it has gained, rightly or wrongly, and the people who take their love to extremes. I, for one, have no right to complain or mock. After all, I have several Star Wars Pez dispensers. Anyhoo, if you love Troll 2 or just love cult movies and their followings in general, give Best Worst Movie a gander. It did change the lives of those who were in it, for better or worse.
