What The Madness Means to Me...

By Eric Polk-
Ahhh, the leaves are turning a golden brown, the stores are stocked with Halloween merch, the football is flying, and the cider is ripening so it must mean almost time for another edition of The Halloween Horror Movie Madness Marathon over on Facebook(start date is October 6th). This year's theme delves into the dark underbelly of the horror world known as the Video Nasties and while it may make a few participants somewhat queasy, it's also a chance to share camaraderie and a sense of union that perhaps is hard to come by outside the cozy walls of horror fandom.

Camaraderie is really what The Madness means to me. It's not necessarily about the contest itself but of the people participating. It's always great to help my fellow maniacs out whether it's the judges who have a certain question about a film, a recommendation to a teammate, or just a word or two of encouragement. The upshot of this sense of nationhood leads to 1)great undiscovered treasures(or stinkers), 2)long-lasting friendships. If you want to join in the fun, just click the link below...

The Head Hauntress of the Madness, Mrs. Elizabeth Grey, will be taking entries after the Sept.22nd edition of DBHR. 30 spots are available this year and they will go fast!

I'll likely just lurk, but I requested to join the group. It sounds like a cool idea!

It's great fun. I'm hoping to make it in for my 3rd year. While my work and family make it all but impossible to win, I still love the thrill of the hunt and seeing what everyone else is watching.
