Day 14 "favorite zombie movie" of the 30 day horror challenge

Favorite zombie film? This sub-genre of horror films is one that just won't die! There always seems to be a countless amount of zombie films to choose from at any one moment. Of course, the godfather of the zombie film would be George A. Romero who not only brought us Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead and Survival of the Dead. He's the one responsible for all of the tangents associated with this sub-genre. We also have entertaining fluff like the Resident Evil series. However, it isn't all good as we have low budget zombie movie after low budget zombie movie coming out these days and overcrowding the market. So with a sub-genre with so many titles, what did I pick? I wanted to pick a zombie film that not only frightened me, it made me laugh cause when you think about it zombies are both equally scary and frightening.  So without further hesitation, I give you........

The Return of the Living Dead - I saw this movie when it first came out. I must have been about 5 at the time. I was watching it one late night with my mom, as she had rented it from the new video store in town. I remember my mom running over to my side to cover up my eyes when Linnea Quigley got naked. I also remember just how much this film scared me to death! It frightened me so much that whenever I did remember my dreams (or nightmares), it usually involved me running from zombies! The Return of the Living Dead was one of those films I kept renting over and over again to watch throughout my child and teen years so that me and my cousins or friends could experience the chills and laughs of this horror comedy together. I know we would always get a good laugh at the opening where the viewer was informed it was based on a true story! You know what though, even to this very day, The Return of the Living Dead still has the power to frighten and scare me, even though I have seen it a million times by now. Maybe it has something to do with the claustrophobic setting or the impending doom of the character's situation? At any rate, a film that can still scare me 24 years after the fact and after repeated viewings deserves special praise.

So which film would you have picked? ....to take part, the rules are below, or you can check out the Facebook fan page and interact with everyone else that's taking part by visiting:

Really?
Not a bad film by any means, but I would have gone with something different.

Maybe even the original 1968 Night of the Living Dead. Hey, you can never miss with the classics, right?

Great review, though. I think you may have inspired me to watch ROTLD again.

This is the one I struggled with the most, because I really love zombie movies. But I ended up choosing Planet Terror.
