Deadgirl - Dollar Bin Horror

2008 - 101mins. - Rated R
D: Marcel Sarmiento, Gadi Harel
C: Shiloh Fernandez, Noah Segan, Michael Bowen, Candice Accola

High school misfits skipping school for the day break into an abandoned mental hospital only to discover a naked woman bound and gagged to an operating table that turns out to be a zombie.

Much talked about, controversial addition to the zombie sub-genre has a bold, daring premise, but gets lost in stereotypical characterizations. Deadgirl is supposed to be both a horror film and a coming of age story, but the coming of age elements aren't as distinctive nor as effective as the horror elements. With the characterizations, the film scratches the surface as to who the characters are, but doesn't give viewers the substance of what makes these people tick or what drives them to do what they do. Only Noah Segan manages to bring any depth to his role with a breakthrough performance. Deadgirl also feels like more of a film experiment then an actual film. Sure, the material is bound to get people going, but the overall concept isn't as fleshed out as it could have been. Overall, Deadgirl gives viewers interesting situations and ideas to gage upon, but it doesn't bring enough dimensionality to these various scenarios to give them the full resonance that the material could have had. -Brandon Sites http://bigdaddyhorrorreviews.com/

Pretty messed up movie, I recommended it for my WTF?! Wednesdays once. Something about making a zombie girl your personal love slave that's a little.... ew.

I would tell the filmmakers "good first try." My son and I found ourselves asking just why the zombie was in the abandoned asylum chained to the bed. We also found ourselves comparing the main characters to Beavis and Butthead characters, if Beavis and Butthead were more vile. The guy who initially decides it would be cool to rape the zombie is Butthead, his wimpy friend is Beavis, and the third friend that joins the party is Stewart. We also thought it was pretty cool when they tried to kidnap the tough hooker at the gas station and she kicked their asses. Huh huh huh! Also, why when other females were bitten did they turn to zombies, but the jock who was bitten ended up with his guts exploding? There were a lot of plot holes with this film.

I really, really loved this flick. It's original, creepy, highly entertaining and even a bit disturbing.
