JournalStone, a site dedicated to promoting artists, writers, photographers, and much more, is hosting a horror writing competition! Short stories between 5,000 and 8,000 words pertaining to any kind of horror story with monsters (vamps, zombies, ect.) could win a place in their upcoming anthology (you can bet I'm entering!) I sat down with the creator of JournalStone to learn more about the contest and the site!
Q: What exactly is Journal Stone?
A: JournalStone is now over a year old. It was originally a website that was started to promote my first novel, Duncan’s Diary, Birth of a Serial Killer. It then evolved into a promotional site for photographers, artists and models, as well as listing literary referential material. After helping several writers with publishing and editorial questions we decided the next step in our evolutionary chain was to offer editorial services which soon led to publishing as well.
JournalStone is now a full service publisher offering all the bells and whistles needed to publish a novel in all formats. We have no idea what we will offer in addition to these services going forward, but we will primarily remain a publishing company from here on out.
Q: Can you tell us a bit about your recent contest? What do authors need to know to enter?
A: Our recent contest is geared toward horror/science fiction short stories. It is very simple to enter. Submit a short story, 5k to 7.5k word count, in the above mentioned genre and you are in. The top ten to fifteen winners will have their stories published in JournalStone’s 1st annual anthology. We will be continuing this tradition once a year moving forward.
Q: What made you want to do a contest anthology?
A: Since JournalStone is a new publishing company we wanted to open up our services to a wide audience of authors. We felt the most exciting way to do this was to publish several authors’ works in one anthology. This will hopefully give a wide audience of writers the chance to view our services and gain an understanding of the quality of work that JournalStone is capable of providing.
