Dollar Bin Film:Shutter Island
By Eric Polk of http://anotherdescentino.blogspot.com
Don't let the phrase 'psychological thriller' deceive you, this is a horror film, albeit one that bludgeons the mind rather than the body. Directed by the legendary Martin Scorsese, Shutter Island is based on the novel written by Dennis LeHane and features Leonardo Dicaprio in the lead role as U.S. Marshall Edward "Teddy" Daniels. Iceberg dead ahead? Nah, maybe an icicle.
Daniels and his partner head to a criminally insane asylum located in Boston Harbor to investigate the disappearance of a lady patient from a locked room. We learn Daniels is a WW II vet with a dead wife, kids, migraines, and a bit of a drinking problem. All of these peccadilloes form a web around the inspector's psyche as thing begin to dissolve into a world of twists and turns that will leave one scratching his or her head if they don't pay attention.
Without giving anything away, Daniels explains to his partner an ulterior motive for taking on this case, one that is fairly obvious. Fairly obvious as well is the ending which sad because up until that point, this is a real good film. Shutter Island has alot of great flashbacks, a good story until the end, and great acting. Initially, I was going to give this 9/10 but after sleeping on it, I'm giving this an 8/10. Check it out!

I really want to see this. Read the book last winter and loved it. Never read a Lehane novel before, but I'll be reading another one now, that's for sure.
Glad to hear the movie holds up well.
Didn't read the novel, but I will be sure to pick up a copy of this. I'm sure it's better than the movie.
Great Site!

I loved the ending, I debated what it suggested for days with friends. There are some subtleties to the ending that leave it open to interpretation.
By the way, I included you guys in my favorite blog list. :)
