By Eric Polk-
Yesterday, the worlds of horror and literature lost a true icon as Richard Matheson passed away at the age of 87. One cannot turn around without seeing this man's contributions to the genres. I Am Legend, What Dreams May Come, The Box, Hell House, Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, Duel. The list is endless. In addition to his novels, Richard Matheson contributed one of the finest episodes of the original Star Trek series in The Enemy Within.
One of the best pieces of advice I'd ever received when it came to writing was read the influences of your influences. This certainly rings true as my favorite author, Stephen King, was affected by the man's works and by proxy, myself. Mr. Matheson will be missed.
