Congrats to the Twisted Twins and a look at American Mary!

A huge congratulations is in order to my two favorite women in indie horror, Jen and Sylvia Soska. If you've had the chance to see their first feature length film, Dead Hooker in a Trunk, then you know why I say they are my favorite...and now they seem to be taking over the world! Their second feature film, American Mary, will be playing at the Cannes Film Festival (Yes, THE Cannes!!!). And to get everyone even more pumped, they've released the first still from the film (below). Like I told them, I think it looks beautiful and I'm even more excited for this film. I am so happy for them and we here at Dollar Bin Horror just know that Cannes will adore you two!

Here's the Teaser Trailer and a synopsis of the film.

From the creative team that brought you the indie-smash film Dead Hooker In A Trunk - American Mary is the story of a medical student named Mary who is growing increasingly broke and disenchanted with medical school and the established doctors she once idolized. The allure of easy money sends a desperate Mary through the messy world of underground surgeries which leaves more marks on her than the so-called freakish clientele.

I cannot wait to be able to see what is sure to be another masterpiece by the Queens of indie horror!

Dollar Bin Horror Book Review:Now and Forever(2007)

By Eric Polk-
Haven't done one of these in awhile. As you may or may not know, I love Ray Bradbury. I feel Something Wicked This Way Comes is one of the best horror novels to have come out in the pre-Stephen King era. Plus, who can forget The Jar? Which leads me to review this book though actually it is two novellas.

Dollar Bin Horror Review:Diary of the Dead(2008)

By Eric Polk-
Tonight over on Dollar Bin Horror Radio, we will be discussing the legacy of legendary director George A. Romero. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/ericdescent/2012/05/10/dollar-bin-horror-radioepisode-lix-the-maddness-of-george-1, however, right now, I'd like to talk about the jar of Ragu staining said legacy known as Diary of the Dead.

Splurge Of The Week: Dark Shadows

I was very lucky to get early screening passes to see the newest Tim Burton/ Johnny Depp collaboration yesterday, Dark Shadows (thanks to the folks from the Old School Sinema zombie walk!). As you all know, the film is based of the 1966–1971 gothic soap opera, but with a Burton-esk twist. Now as someone who wasn't around when the original show was out, I cannot compare the film to the soap opera. I can only give my view of the film based upon how I felt about it as a stand alone movie. I will also try my best not to spoil it in this review, but if I do slip a little, let it be said I warned you!!! Now on to the review...

Kickstarter Project Of The Week: Bruin Lake

Hello everyone out there in DBH land! I've decided to start something new in order to try and help out more indie film makers as much as I can from my wee little blog and create the Kickstarter Project of the Week. If you haven't heard of Kickstarter yet...who are you? But seriously, http://www.kickstarter.com is a site where film makers can ask for donations to help fund their films while returning the favor with little thank yous along the way (for a certain donation price, you could even get a production credit in some films!) It's a great way to help the indie horror film thrive and discover just how creative the indie world is.

This week's Project is a werewolf film called Bruin Lake.

Here's a little bit about the project:
We are making a low budget horror film called "BRUIN LAKE" staring Bill Moseley, Michael Berryman, Priscilla Barnes, Cassie Keller, Mike Holman, Jimmy Doom, Tony Senzamici, Greg Collins, Mike Hard and several others. The film is written by Scott Kodrik and Greg Hutto. It's going to be shot in the style of the old wolf man films in a cabin in Hell, Michigan. The film has been in the making for three years now and we are asking for your help to raise additional funding. Our film is a true classic modern day horror film. The Thing meets The Wolfman. We are confident that with your help, we can prove that our film will have the "Big Budget" look by using our experiences, cast and crew.

As you can see, the cast of this upcoming film looks great and so does the video! If you are interested in backing them, click HERE to see the donation amounts you can give and help out!

On the Next Episode of DBHR....

The triumvirate of terror are back and there will be hell to pay as they discuss the films of the man, the myth, the legend:GEORGE F'N ROMERO!!!!! Plus, proprietor of www.zombiesandtoys.com, Jason Nagy, will be our special guest as we talk about horror toys for all the girls and boys. Join in on the fun this Wednesday at 8 pm EST by calling 1-877-552-4073.
