C'mon! Admit it! There was always that horror film, it wasn't necessarily the best horror film ever made, that you had to keep watching over and over again as a kid or as a teenager. There was just something about that film that drew you to it. Something that made you want to watch it over and over again. I know for some that could be The Video Dead since that used to have frequent airings on USA. Or for others that title could be Carrie since the story resonates with so many people. Or it could be something more obscure and less well known. Whatever that title is, it's funny how that title is a part of you and you will always have those memories of watching it a ton of times. For me, the film that I watched over and over again as a kid, reflected upon me so that's why I think I was so drawn to it. So I give you.....
Intruder - Every summer there always seemed to be that one film I always watched repeatedly time and time again as a kid. Intruder, which deals with a group of supermarket employees preparing for a going out of business sale, but instead are murdered by a killer with a thing for finding creative ways to kill people with supermarket equipment, is one of those such films. This was the film I watched repeatedly during my summer vacation in between 7th and 8th grade. My grandmother had just been diagnosed with breast cancer after undergoing a surgery. I guess that was the summer where I lost my innocence on how the world operates and I went from being a kid in mentality to being a teenager with some angst. Part of the appeal of Intruder, I guess for me, was the fact that the story had characters who were forced to let go of the past and move forward even if they don't want to. I wanted to go back to my childhood years instead of embarking on this new, painful chapter in my life of having to deal with my grandmother who now had breast cancer. I lived with my grandmother my entire child and teen years. She was my mom in essence, so it made it all the more painful. I was conflicted and upset all the time. The characters and what was happening to them (.....well the stuff that happens to them before they faced a grisly death at least) related to what was going on to me and in it's own little way, Intruder helped me to cope with the stress of it all, because I could see other people other then myself having to deal with a big change in their lives.
