Dollar Bin Film - "The Vampire Lovers"

General Von Spielsdorf loses his nubile daughter to Mircalla, a beautiful vampiress, and swears revenge, with the help of expert vampire-killer Baron Hartog, and the Doctor.

This film is the perfect example of the classic days of Hammer Horror. It has a great leading actor, Peter Cushing, and bounties and gorgeous female vampires running around causing havoc. Ingrid Pitt does a fantastic job playing the lead vampiress Mircalla. She captures both the sexual and terrifying aspects a great vampire should have (watch and learn Edward!). And of course, all the other great hammer leading ladies are in this film too so if you love beautiful women, you in for a treat. For a film of it's time, it has some pretty good gore (including decapitation) and the story itself is intriguing and well done. Quite simply, if you love Hammer films, beautiful women, REAL vampires, and just a good horror flick, take a gander at The Vampire Lovers.

Oh I just love this film. One of my faves. Quite sexy too!

A campy classic. Interesting for the thick=innocent, intelligent=evil female dichotomy.

Yep, a real Hammer classic. Moody, dreamy atmosphere. Opening decapitation still cut though - no head hitting the floor - just the 'thud'! Produced some great posters around the world too - I included some in a review I did a while back - http://watchinghammer.blogspot.com/search/label/Vampire%20Lovers

Quite surprising the first time I saw it because of the emphasis on sex and nudity. I was used to the implied but never shown aspects of Hammer horror. Ingrid Pitt really should been more well known the annals of scream queendom. It's still my favorite film adaptation of Carmilla.

A good film really. Maybe some people now would consider the pacing slow but I like this style as well as faster moving films. Ingrid Pitt was ravishing.
